Udaipur,
'the City of Dreams' is perhaps the most romantic city in Rajasthan.
Encircled by the Aravali mountains, the lakes, palaces and gardens
present an exquisite beauty which never fails to impress. The
wonderful city was born out of the necessity of the ruling clan
for peace, calm and security after the various Mughal invasions
on their previous capital Chittor. The then Maharana, Udai Singhji,
after the third siege of his capital Chittor in 1568-69, looking
for an agreeable and a safe place to build his capital, came across
the lake pichola. With the blessing of a holy sage of the region,
built his palace on the banks of this lake. Today Udaipur is city
of palaces encircling three lakes.
To
this day, in a shrine in the heart of the city palace, a flame
burns in gratitude to the ascetic and, so Udaipur was born in
the midst of a fertile valley on the banks of the Lake Pichola.
Dabok airport is 21 km from the city center. It is connected on
the road link between Delhi and Mumbai.
